We are pleased to announce that Andy Bessette, Executive Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer of The Travelers Companies, Inc., and his wife Cherrie will be honored with the Star of Hope award at the 2018 Promise Ball.
The Bessettes became involved with JDRF when their son Chris was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes (T1D) at the age of 18. While Chris spent a week in the ICU, Andy and Cherrie went to work learning as much as they could about the disease and the resources available to them. The couple immediately lent their support to JDRF. Cherrie joined the chapter’s Board of Directors and became a leader on various Promise Ball committees. Andy helped to raise awareness in the business community and bring other business leaders into the JDRF community.
Today Chris is a healthy 24-year old. After six years of multiple daily insulin injections, he recently switched to the Medtronic artificial pancreas system, a product which JDRF was pivotal in bringing to the market. Cherrie and Andy exemplify the JDRF values of passion and innovation. We are delighted to honor them at this year’s Promise Ball.
